This Day in History: 2022-09-04

A large crowd helped the Noongar Kaartdijin Aboriginal Corporation (NKAC) and the Shire of Toodyay celebrate the Gnulla Karnany Waangkiny (Our Truth Telling) Project at a special cultural ceremony at the Newcastle Gaol Museum precinct. Eighteen installations at the Newcastle Gaol Museum in Clinton Street, Toodyay, show awareness of Noongar traditional life; engagement of Noongar people in everyday life; and, highlight the dark history and unjust treatment of Noongar people since colonisation. This was a Lotterywest funded project, co-ordinated by Volunteer Project Co-ordinator Helen Shanks.
