This Day in History: 2013-01-26

The Shire of Toodyay Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards were held in Duidgee Park, Toodyay. The winner of the senior award was Gaven Donegan, who was a member of the Toodyay Historical Society at the time, was nominated by the Central Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade. Samantha Salmond (a Lieutenant in the Coondle Nunile Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade) was declared the Citizen of the Year – Under 25 years. The Butterly Cottages Association won the Community Group Award. The Toodyay Community Bus was also nominated.  Many people put their hand prints (and names) in orange, red, yellow, green or black paint on a large drop cloth. This was a creative idea of Pamela Walsh.
