This Day in History: 2011-10-01

Toodyay’s 175th Anniversary Grand Parade made its way down Stirling Terrace to Telegraph Road and into the Toodyay Showgrounds. The Toodyay Historical Society entered a ‘hot air balloon’ float, commemorating America sensation Miss Millie Viola’s balloon flight over Toodyay in 1891. The Toodyay Agricultural Society presented a float with a rural theme, which advertised the Toodyay Agricultural Show. THS President Len Leeder was MC of the 150th Anniversary Cake cutting ceremony, undertaken by venerable local Mrs. Mena Chapman, and held under a marquee in the Showgrounds.
