This Day in History: 2009-07-21
The Shire of Toodyay hosted an afternoon tea for the Toodyay Historical Society to thank them, and in particular member Beth Frayne, for help in compiling and confirming the information required for the Shire’s new jarrah Honour Boards, hanging in the Council Chambers (the former Courtroom of the Courthouse). on Fiennes Street, Toodyay. The boards display the names of Road Board Members, Municipal and Shire Councillors, Road Board Secretaries, Town and Shire Clerks, and CEOs. As Toodyay’s local government bodies have been in existence since 1871, the names represent many of the district’s families, past and present. Vice President Robyn Taylor, on behalf of the President Len Leeder, took this opportunity to present the Shire President Charles Wroth and the Council, with a copy of the new THS publication The Long Toodyay Chronology (Part 1, 1829-1900).
