This Day in History: 2000-08-05
2000 August 5-6: The 28th Coates Hire Avon Descent whitewater boat race from Northam to Bayswater, achieved the entry limit of 500 craft, with 750 competitors, thus satisfying a goal of Northam’s Avon Descent Association. This year, the Toodyay Lions Club took a more active role in running the overnight campsite at Cobbler Pool, involving camp setup, gate duty, boat security and camp pull-down and clean-up. Mud, rain and cold did not deter the Lions. Good media coverage attracted many visitors to the town.
