This Day in History: 2000-03-11

Over 600 people and Moondyne Joe attended the opening of the district’s new bank, an idea of the Toodyay Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The Toodyay & Districts Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank was officially opened by Russell Jenkins, Head of Community Banking for the Bendigo Bank, in the old bank building (1898) in Stirling Terrace.  Russell and the Bank Board’s Chairman, Richard Dymond, cut the ribbon. The company operating the branch is the Toodyay & Districts Community Financial Services Ltd. The first branch manager was John Stacey.
