This Day in History: 1999-01-26

The Australia Day Party was held in the evening in Toodyay’s Duidgee Park for the first time (previously held in the Toodyay Showgrounds).  Four times the usual number of people attended. Winners of the five award categories were: Recreation: John Lucas; Emergency Services: Maxine J. Walker; Bush Fire Services: Brian Wood; Community Support: Bruce Cleasby; and Tourism: Judy Fisher. Brian Wood won the Toodyay Citizen of the Year Award. A Junior Citizen of the Year Award was not presented. CEO Andrew Smith and a committee of Councillors Stan Eastwood, Jennifer Scott and Graham Bairstow organized the event.
