This Day in History: 1998-09-19

1998 September 19-20: The second Toodyay Highland Games and Festival of the Celts held in the Toodyay Showgrounds was a great success, featuring a street parade, a concert in a big marquee on the Showgrounds, followed by a dance on a very cold night.  The WA Police Pipe Band and the City of Wanneroo Pipe Band performed. Workshops and games occurred on the Sunday. At 3.30pm, 50 competitors competed in the Toodyay Hill Climb, up Mt. Anderson. Organised by the Northam Running Club, the event was won by Terry Cummins.  Local girl Amber Tennant won the Open Female section. Event Secretary Jennifer Scott was assisted by the Highland Games Association of Australia and local bush fires brigades.
