This Day in History: 1997-11-11

Wally Chitty turned the key and officially opened the Dorizzi Memorial Cell in the Old Gaol Museum, in Clinton Street, Toodyay. Named in remembrance of the three Dorizzi brothers (Tom, Bert and Gordon), who were prisoners of war and died during World War 2 at Sandarkan. North Borneo. Museum curator Jack Hammer led the project to create this display. Toodyay Tourist Centre Manager Peter Chiffings officiated and Brian Eaton, President of the Toodyay RSL, delivered the opening speech.
