This Day in History: 1997-03-23

The Shire of Toodyay hosted a sausage sizzle at Duidgee Park on a Sunday, to thank all those involved in fighting fires this season. The Minister for Police and Emergency Services, John Day, was the guest of honour and presented the keys of a new fast attack fire fighting unit to Stan Eastwood, Captain of Central Volunteer Fire Brigade. The vehicle was purchased by the Shire, with the help of a LotteryWest grant of $17,000. The Shire now owned seven fire fighting vehicles and the Toodyay Branch of the WA Fire and Rescue Service had another two units.
