This Day in History: 1995-10-27
1995 October 27-29: The Toodyay Folk Arts Festival was held in Toodyay, sponsored by Healthways. Leisa Armstrong headed a local committee, some of whose members were also on the West Australian Folk Federation’s committee, to enable closer communication. Guest artists included Jez Lowe, on his first tour of Australia. Toodyay District High School students performed in the Toodyay Memorial Hall under the direction of Artist in Residence and didgeridoo player Richard Walley. A Songwriter’s Contest was again held. An additional feature that year was the arts, crafts and entertainment area in Newcastle Park. A weekend ticket cost $50.00. The Festival was considered to have had mixed success, with low attendances.
