This Day in History: 1995-08-05
1995 August 5-6: The Toodyay Lions Club cut and collected firewood for the 23rd Avon Descent whitewater boat and paddle race from Northam to Bayswater, which was the club’s main fund-raiser for the year. Members also manned the gate to the Cobbler Pool overnight campsite, on the Avon River, for 36 hours and helped set-up and pull down the camp. Toodyay’s David Coutts completed his sixth Descent, getting a medal for finishing in the top third of the field of 250 competitors.
