This Day in History: 1995-04-22
The Toodyay Community Cinema commenced in the Toodyay Memorial Hall, on Stirling Terrace. The venture was run by Peter Chiffings and a band of volunteers. Over 100 people attended the cocktail party and enjoyed a program of old newsreels, advertisements and several short films. The projector was placed on the stage behind a decorative screen designed by Hilda Christian, and the screen was hung at the back of the hall. The Community Cinema ran until around April 1999, when screening ceased due to projector problems.
