This Day in History: 1993-10-16

The 140th (actually the 135th) annual Toodyay Agricultural Show was held in the Showgrounds, with the W.A. Marching Girls Association and the Midland Brick Brass band entertaining the crowd. Judging commenced at 9am and the Exhibition Pavilions opened to the public half an hour earlier than usual, at 11.30am.  Max Trenorden MLA, Member for Avon, officially opened the Show.  So many people attended, the food ran out in some areas. The President’s Trophy was won by the Stevenson family of ‘The Byeen’, for most points in the cattle, sheep and wool sections. The Jean Bushell Perpetual Family Trophy was won by Ian and Lee-Anne MacGregor and family once again for most points in the hobbycraft, vegetable, children’s and floriculture sections. Toodyay Traders won a new award category: Commercial Exhibits. The President of the Toodyay Agricultural Society was Charles Wroth and the Secretary/Treasurer was Jennifer Scott.
