This Day in History: 1989-08-04

1989 August 4-6:  The Avon River was at a good level for the 17th Avon Descent whitewater boat race from Northam to Bayswater. Despite some publicity to the contrary, crowds in recent years had been well behaved. The Toodyay Lions Club project during the Avon Descent this year raised $2,500, which was to be spent on local community projects.
