This Day in History: 1989-05-06

The Toodyay local government elections were held. There were three vacancies to be filled, one each in the East, West and Central Wards, due to retiring Shire Councillors. Retiring Councillors Robert (Bob) Somers (East) was re-elected. Janice I. Ferguson (West) and Allan J. Newton (Central) were newly elected. There was a 50% turnout for Central Ward on polling day. Robert (Bob) Somers was later elected Shire President. Robert J. Millar was the Shire Clerk (since August 1986).
