This Day in History: 1987-10-11
After some delay, the Avondown Centre for Catholic Education was officially opened by Sister Ann Tormey, Congregational Superior, Sisters of Mercy (Perth Congregation). The site was then blessed by the Archbishop of Perth, the Most Reverend William Foley. The centre was to be used as a social and educational group campsite. A reunion was held of former pupils and staff of St. Aloysius School. During the ceremony the Archbishop blessed a crucifix which went into Mercy House (the former main Convent building), and then blessed a plaque which was later fixed to a slab of Toodyay stone, which formed an essential part of a recent landscaping project.
