This Day in History: 1982-12-14
The new portion of the Toodyay Public Cemetery on Telegraph Road was officially opened by Toodyay Shire President Geoff Ludemann with the unveiling of a plaque. The new area included a general section for burials and a new niche wall for the holding of ashes. A dedication ceremony was held by representatives of the Anglican, Uniting and Roman Catholic churches. Representatives of the Seventh Day Adventists and the Salvation Army were also present. The old existing gates were replaced by a new brick entrance and gates, and the brick and chain front fence was later extended. Total cost of the earthwork, brickwork and landscaping was $14,782, with all the work carried out by Shire of Toodyay staff.
