This Day in History: 1981-07-26
The Sunday Times Blanket Appeal Train, carrying over 800 passengers, came to Toodyay for a three-hour visit. One of the biggest passenger trains ever to stop at Toodyay, the crowd enjoyed a picnic lunch, and enjoyed various town attractions, such as part of a new display on the life and exploits of Toodyay’s bushranger Moondyne Joe, at Connor’s Mill. The illustrated panels were prepared by Scott Properjohn, to be later followed by three-dimensional dioramas of Toodyay and a re-construction of Joe’s cell in Fremantle Prison.
