This Day in History: 1974-02-14

The Governor approved of the publication Rica Erickson’s forthcoming book Old Toodyay and Newcastle to be declared a work for which money ($7,000) may be borrowed by the Toodyay Shire Council. Under the Local Government Act this ‘work’ would usually refer to a permanent physical object such as a road, building or piece of machinery and it is believed that this was the first time a book was approved as a ‘work’. 2,500 copies were to be printed.
