This Day in History: 1971-12-09

The Toodyay Volunteer Fire Brigade conducted a ‘burn off night’, where volunteers from various organizations joined with the fire brigade members in making a clean sweep of the town. Groups were under the command of Murray Buchan, and kept in touch with two-way radios. The idea of having one concentrated effort was considered superior to the drawn out periods of burning in the past.
