This Day in History: 1968-07-20

The inaugural meeting of the Toodyay Naturalists’ Club was held at the Church of England Hall, Toodyay, attended by 41 adults and children. The Club was founded by Dawn Atwell (farmer from Woodendale), Ray Paynter (farmer and botanist from Clackline), Hazel Hastie (farmer’s wife from Deepdale) and Albert (Albie) North (Shire Councillor and farmer from Strathavon). Toodyay farmer Wally Chitty had also made early attempts to start a wildlife club.
