This Day in History: 1962-10-07

The Old Gaol Museum (Newcastle Gaol) on Clinton Street was officially opened by the Minister for Industrial Development, Railways and the North-West, the Hon. Charles Court, at a function hosted by the Toodyay Shire Council. A buffet luncheon was served in the C.W.A. Hall prior to the event. The Old Gaol was thought to be the State’s first country gaol museum.
