This Day in History: 1958-09-04

1958 September: It was reported that Industrial Extracts Ltd. was closing down its Toodyay plant, due to an abnormal accumulation of stock, caused by tariff difficulties. These difficulties were overcome but owing to large tonnages of tannin accumulated by the company, it was necessary to close the plant for at least several months. Families occupying the company’s cottages were allowed to live in them rent free until alternative employment was found.
