This Day in History: 1945-08-15
World War 2 ended in the Pacific (VP Day). A great crowd gathered outside Toodyay Post Office that Wednesday night to celebrate the wonderful announcement of VP Day. The celebration was marked by a Victory Torch Light Procession organised by Mr. Robert H. Lambert and the citizens of the district. A number of trucks and cars conveying crowds of people took part in the procession, which slowly moved up Stirling Terrace to the Goomalling Road intersection and back to the Post Office, then up Duke Street, returning down Clinton Street, to stop at the intersection of Duke Street and Stirling Terrace. Community singing and dancing continued in the street until 9.30 p.m., when permission was granted to use the Town Hall. Dancing continued until 1 a.m.
