This Day in History: 1945-06-01

1945 June: It was announced that a new standard gauge (4ft 8 1/2 in.) railway would be built from Fremantle to Kalgoorlie, with a completely new line from Guildford to Northam via the Avon Valley and Toodyay, providing Toodyay with a main line connection to Perth. Working surveys were to commence in the next few weeks. Finance and control issues were still being determined.
