Toodyay, Nov. 24 report: Elioth Gruner, an outstanding Australian landscape painter, worked in the Northam and Toodyay areas for some weeks. Mr. Gruner had been invited to WA by the Art Gallery of Western Australia, who had commissioned him to paint a representative landscape of some part of WA. The Gallery later selected ‘Valley of the Avon’, painted from Nunyle Hill and showing Toodyay and the surrounding hills in the distance, and another work, a scene of Bridgetown. Three other works painted by Gruner at that time are not held in WA, including one of the Avon River, from Egoline (Mr.Walsh’s property).
