This Day in History: 1933-10-16

Toodyay State School won first prize in the wheat belt zone of the rural schools’ competition for the Cockram Shield, at the Royal Show, for the best individual exhibit and thus secured the Cresco trophy. The Cockram Shield was won by the wheat belt zone that year. The experimental plots worked by the boys of the Toodyay school were examples of the fundamental principles of cereal growing. The Toodyay State School had been exhibiting in this competition since 1929 with increasing success. The Cresco trophy, a handsome wall clock, was presented on 22 November.
