This Day in History: 1930-02-04
1930 February: The bituminous surface of Stirling Terrace, Toodyay, was the first in WA in which screened ironstone gravel had been used with bitumen, instead of the usual crushed blue metal. If successful, it meant considerable savings when country main roads were treated with bitumen. Henry G. Atwell, City of Perth City Engineer, commented very favourably upon the surface, stating it lasts 25 years.
