This Day in History: 1929-06-15
The Director of Adult Education, Mr. T.H. Roberts, took a university student debating team (Messrs. C.E. Pollett, K. Laffer and R. Ennis) to Toodyay where a debate was held in the Toodyay Town Hall against members of the Toodyay Literary and Debating Society. The subject debated was ‘That protective tariffs are necessary to the material progress of Australia’. The local team of Dr. L. Goody, E. Lee Steere and C. Reidel was judged the winner by Mr. Roberts.
