This Day in History: 1924-01-21

A general meeting of the Toodyay Branch of the Primary Producers’ Association of Western Australia was held in the Toodyay Town Hall, presided over by Ignatius George Boyle. A motion re-affirming an original vote of confidence in the state executive was carried (as regards its refusal to endorse certain Country Party candidates). A discussion also occurred on the means of fighting bush fires. Boyle’s suggestion was adopted: that a body of volunteers be organised, to be controlled by a chosen captain, and paid at a rate per hour from a fund subscribed by farmers and others. P. Doig was asked to be the organiser of the volunteer brigade, and a subscription list was opened.
