This Day in History: 1923-04-14

A referendum of Toodyay ratepayers was taken to decide whether or not the Toodyay Road Board should borrow the sum of £1,000 to purchase the grounds (ie the Showgrounds) and buildings of the Toodyay Agricultural Society, and utilise them for recreation purposes. The proposal created a great deal of street discussion, but the ballot was a light one, ratepayers having lost interest in the matter. Out of 351 ratepayers, 66 voted: Yes: 53; No: 12; 1 informal.
