This Day in History: 1918-11-11
Toodyay received the news of the end of the Great War (World War 1) (ie the signing of the Armistice and the cessation of hostilities) that night via a telephone message received at 9.45pm. The fire bell, the school bell and the church bells were rung with vigour. Patriotic airs were played on a piano placed on a lorry and driven along Stirling Terrace. An impromptu dance was held in the Town Hall, which lasted until dawn.
