This Day in History: 1916-09-16

A meeting was held to discuss the best means for securing a full poll on the National Service Referendum to be taken on 28 October. The following gentlemen were elected as a preliminary Committee (later called the Toodyay Campaign Committee): Messrs. J. Somers (Chairman), J.H. Phillips, W. Cousins, C.J. Cook, E.G. Hasson, L.J. Lukin, C.M. Lukin, M. Lloyd, S.G. Beach, and C.A. Frith (Hon. Sec). Local meetings were held in outlying localities. This Committee advocated a Yes vote.
