This Day in History: 1908-02-24
An official ceremony for the opening of Newcastle’s reticulated water service was held. Government visitors came by car via Baylup, including Sir John Forrest, Timothy Francis Quinlan MLA and the Minister for Works James Price. The water was carried in a 3 in. pipe 13 miles from the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme pipeline at a point west of Northam. Sir John officially turned on the water at a pipe in front of the Newcastle Municipal Chambers.
