This Day in History: 1903-03-12

Lieut.-Colonel Percy Ricardo and Major John Campbell visited Newcastle to investigate certain matters in relation to the Newcastle division of the Eastern Districts Mounted Infantry. The distinguished military visitors were met by Q.M.S. Lewis John Buttle, of the local corps, who escorted them to the proposed site of the rifle butts, which later resulted in the erection of the butts and the issue of a plentiful supply of ammunition to the members of the corps. The rifle range later passed inspection.
