This Day in History: 1901-11-25

A farewell social was held in the Freemasons’ Hotel ballroom for Arthur Coape Franklyn of the Western Australian Bank and Thomas Binning, Corporal of Police.  Franklyn was presented with an illuminated address, having spent 9 years in Newcastle. He was moving to Southern Cross. His replacement was Edward Montague Austin. Binning had been in Newcastle only a short time and was transferred to the Gascoyne. His successor was Corporal Mercer.
