This Day in History: 1901-01-01
The residents of Newcastle spent the £30 given to the town by the State government to celebrate Commonwealth Day (1 January) on a visit to the Perth Zoo. The Newcastle Municipal Council donated £10 towards the railway excursion. It was reported that 250 people took advantage of the offer and they had a very good time in the Metropolis.
