This Day in History: 1896-11-30

An extraordinary election was held to elect the Mayor of Newcastle, as no-one had nominated prior to the election date of 16 November. William George Leeder was elected the Mayor of Newcastle, succeeding Joseph Ablett Wroth. Leeder held this position until Nov. 1897.
