This Day in History: 1896-05-06

A Government land sale was held of old Toodyay suburban lots. The sale proved a decided success, with keen competition for almost all blocks, some realising fancy prices. Land was sold to the total value of £350, averaging over £4 per acre, which was reported as “speaking volumes for the progress of the district.”
