This Day in History: 1894-07-19

Contractor Arthur Bridge Wright’s tender was accepted by the government to build a bridge over the Avon River south of Newcastle, on the Goomalling-Toodyay Road. Wright quoted the sum of £1399 16 3 for the ‘Avon River Road Bridge’ contract. By September, the construction of the bridge was underway.
