1891 September 3-4: Professor Stacey’s Company performed in Newcastle’s Mechanics’ Institute (now the Library) on New Road. A feature was the playing of a phonograph. “Quite a sensation was caused when the clear notes of a cornet were distinctly heard through the hall from the phonograph. …” Attendees were recorded and replayed.
