This Day in History: 1891-02-26

A military sports event held by the Newcastle and Toodyay Volunteer corps took place on the Newcastle Recreation Ground on a local public holiday. The commanding officer, Lieut. James Mitchell, ably assisted by Corporal Price, acted as a committee of management. A military ball, in connection with the sports, was held in the evening in the Freemasons’ Hotel’s large Assembly Room.
