This Day in History: 1887-06-17
Governor Sir Frederick Napier Broome changed the name, style and title of the Municipal Council of Newcastle from ‘the Council and Burgesses of the Town of Newcastle’ to ‘the Mayor, Councillors and Burgesses of the Town of Newcastle’. And also the style and title of the Chairman of the Municipal Council to ‘Mayor’.
