This Day in History: 1887-04-11

The Newcastle Government School opened on Duke Street. Designed by Government architect George Temple Poole,the school was built by local builder William Amed Demasson, for the sum of £625 10sh.

Invitations to the opening were sent to the various local teachers: Miss Browning (Newcastle), Miss McKnight (Toodyay Valley), Miss McIntosh (Glendearg), Mrs Whitfield and Messrs. Cooper (Newcastle) and Perrin (Wongamine).
