This Day in History: 1884-02-01

1884 February: The Northam and Newcastle Settlers’ Association was formed, for the purpose of discussing and making known to the Government the wants of the local settlers.

Its meetings were to be held alternately in Newcastle and Northam. The subscription was five shillings per annum. William Simon Dempster was the inaugural Hon. Secretary.
