This Day in History: 1881-01-07

A public meeting was held in the Court House, Fiennes Street, Newcastle, for the purpose of adopting steps for opposing the extension of the Eastern Railway along the route approved by the Colonial Legislature at its last session. Samuel Pole Phillips, of Culham, was voted to the chair.
