This Day in History: 1875-06-12

A public meeting was held in the Newcastle Court House (the front section of the former Depot Barracks), on Fiennes Street, for the purpose of discussing the important question of an import duty on flour. The meeting, chaired by the Resident Magistrate William John Clifton, was in favour of the duty.
