Tenders were accepted for the conveyance of mails: John Acton Wroth, from Guildford to Newcastle, twice a week, in a spring vehicle or on horseback, for three years, at £96 10s. per annum; and John Walsh, from York to Newcastle, via Northam and Neuleyine (Newleyine), vice versa, twice a week, on horseback, for one year, at £94 per annum.’
