This Day in History: 1863-01-18

The foundation stone of the first Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist, in Newcastle, was laid by the Very Rev. Martin Griver, assisted by the Rev. Francis Salvado, Chaplain of Newcastle and the Rev. V. Garrido, Priest of the Native Mission at Victoria Plains.
